Why We do it
We think the plant industry has a packaging problem.
Walk into any garden center and you'll find the same thing: plants in plastic pots. Hundreds of them. Thousands. Single-use, non-recyclable, petroleum-based containers that exist for one purpose — to get a plant from a greenhouse to a shelf — and then spend the next few centuries in a landfill.
We think there's a better way.
Bare root. By design.
Mint doesn't need a pot to survive. It doesn't need a bag of soil, a plastic tray, or a layer of synthetic wrap. It needs roots, moisture, and a little care — and we've built our entire operation around that fact.
Every plant we ship leaves our field in Brattleboro, Vermont as bare root: stems with roots attached, washed clean of soil, wrapped in a moist natural medium, and packed in minimal kraft cardboard. No plastic. No excess. No waste you have to deal with when the box arrives.
This isn't a compromise. Bare root plants establish faster, travel better, and arrive cleaner than potted plants. It's simply a smarter way to ship something alive.
Small products. Small footprint.
We're building Mint Monster around a set of principles we intend to keep as we grow:
Bare root whenever possible. If a plant can be shipped without soil or a container, it will be.
Minimal packaging. Kraft paper, cardboard, and natural materials only. If it can't be recycled or composted, we don't use it.
Small batch. We grow in a field, not a factory. Every variety is tended by hand, harvested by hand, and packed by hand in Brattleboro, Vermont.
Vermont grown. Our plants don't come from a wholesale broker or a distant greenhouse. They come from our field. You know exactly where they're from because we do too.
Products that last. A bare root mint plant, properly cared for, will grow in your garden for decades. We're not selling something you replace every year. We're selling something that becomes part of your yard.
Let's work together.
We're looking for makers, producers, and small businesses in the Northeast who work with mint — or want to.
If you're crafting mint-based products and looking for a local, field-grown supply source, we'd like to hear from you. If you're a food producer, herbalist, distiller, soap maker, tea blender, or anyone else whose work involves mint, let's talk.
We're building relationships with regional businesses who share our values around sourcing, sustainability, and craft. This is early days — we're a small operation with a large field and a longer vision. If that sounds like something worth exploring, reach out.
Our guarantee.
We ship live plants. Living things are unpredictable, and we know that. Here's our promise:

We stand behind what we grow because we grew it.
Note for website setup: This guarantee can also be added as a block on individual product pages and in the order confirmation email.
